"I am besieged, by a thousand or more of the enemy... I am determined to sustain myself as long as possible & die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his own honor and that of his country ... Victory or Death."
The profoundness of those stirring and alarming words did not come from an elder statesman.
They came from a 26 year old who had the deepest sense that he -- and those who remained with him in the old crumbling Spanish mission known as the Alamo -- would soon die.
By every definition, Lieutenant Colonel William Barret Travis, the officer in command of the Texian forces had already crossed a personal threshold from self-centeredness into statesmanship. Now he wanted the world to know he was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for the journey he had taken. The famous letter he penned to "The People of Texas and all Americans in the World" would be more powerful than any sword he carried into battle.
I AM BESIEGED is an epic story that requires an epic storyteller...Native Sun Productions.
Known for their multiple award-winning films, visionary projects, and historical expertise, Native Sun Productions has already initiated the first production phase for a cinematic 90 minute documentary presentation that will resonate for generations to come.
While in the process of securing the multiple revenue streams for broadcast and distribution, Native Sun has also partnered with the Texas General Land Office for the purpose of developing a unique interpretive educational outreach package that will be available to schools, teachers, and homeschoolers everywhere. This will provide a built-in promotion and demand for the documentary.
Documentary Overview
This story was meant for our times. It is clearly about a young person who is trying to escape the residue of his particular selfishness and immaturity and is forced to grow up quickly, becoming a formidable leader on the fiery Texas frontier. The primary theme that drives I AM BESIEGED is the young Travis' fundamental transformation that allows him to briefly witness his potential just before he dies. Without that internal shift of character, his famous letter could not have been written.
The return of the original Travis Letter to the Alamo in 2013 (177 years after it was written) was captured by Native Sun crews, providing for some key building blocks for the expanded and larger story. Bundled into the dramatic and visual treasure of this famous event of the "Victory or Death" struggle at the Alamo, are the interlocking subjects of science, psychology, leadership, historic preservation, and popular culture. All scenes will be cinematically stylized for emotional impact while honoring historical authenticity.
The theme's obvious components gives us an opportunity to "braid" together three unique journeys...the man, the letter, and the legacy. Seamlessly, we will move through that illusory portal of time, from past to present, and back again, on the actual locations where the story takes place.
